Gas Servicing
Make sure you keep your gas servicing appointment. Around 30 people die each year because of badly maintained gas appliances. Keep your appointment and you could win free gas for a year.

Residents Associations

A tenants and residents association is an organisation of people living in the local area. They normally work within a defined area. This area can cover a local estate or could be a single block or street and are open to everybody who lives within its boundaries.

There are a number of active Tenant and Resident Associations operating in Blyth Valley. There are also several informal groups which meet regularly. You can find out what's happening in your area below.

If you are unsure which group covers your area or would like to start up a group, please contact the Resident Participation Unit.

The Role of Tenant and Resident Associations

A Tenant and resident Association needs to decide what it wants to achieve and which issues it wishes to concentrate on. A group may want to focus on housing items locally, such as the repairs service or may wish to participate in wider housing issues. Alternatively groups may have an interest in local community matters, such as the environment or crime or simply want to provide help and support to residents in the area .

We offer training and support to new and established groups to help them identify their own aims and objectives and address issues which reflect the needs of residents in their area.

Promoting Community Spirit

One of the most important aims of any Tenant or Residents Association must be to promote a feeling  of community spirit and involvement.

Tenant and Resident Associations must promote equality and diversity and seek to involve all members of the community regardless of colour, nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious belief, physical or mental disability or age.

We can provide advice and assistance on this issue and help you establish an "Equality and Diversity" policy for your group.
