Make sure you keep your gas servicing appointment. Around 30 people die each year because of badly maintained gas appliances. Keep your appointment and you could win free gas for a year.

Training

Training is available on a variety of subjects for individual residents and Residents Groups. 

 
Training
 
The training offered by Blyth Valley Housing will give residents the skills and knowledge to work effectively within their local community. Training is usually free of charge and reasonable travel costs will be paid.
 
Each year we review our training programme to make sure it meets the needs of residents. In conjunction with residents we develop
the plan and offer as much choice as possible.
 
 
Topics include:- 
 
Minute-taking
 
Note TakingThis course provides essential guidance on how to produce agendas and accurate, brief and clear minutes. It will also improve confidence to take minutes at both informal and formal meetings.

Chairing skills

 
This course will give a clearer sense of the role of chairperson and provide some tips on how to run meetings effectively and to deal with difficult situations and any conflicts that may arise.

Basic book-keeping

 
This course will enable treasurers to set up simple book-keeping systems, record and balance bank and petty cash transactions and produce financial statements.

Presentation skills / confidence building

 
Feeling nervous about speaking at meetings may affect getting a point across. This course will help improve communication skills and delivery techniques.

Team building

 
This course will provide practical help in working together, compromising and negotiating to make decisions and getting the best from team members.

Action planning / setting goals

 
This course will help you set realistic goals for projects and plan how these can be achieved.

Equal opportunities and Diversity

 
This course will equip residents with the knowledge and skills required to ensure equality of opportunity within a group and challenge any unacceptable behaviour within the community that groups represent.

Working with children

 
This course will provide groups who are involved in projects working with children (e.g. after-school clubs, mother and toddler groups, youth clubs) with knowledge on issues around child protection, health and safety and insurance.

Other Training

We regulalry receive notification of Training events from external providers such as Chartered Institute of Housing, PEP, TPAS and others. This is forwarded on to residents and Residents Groups that have expressed an interest in receiving further details on training.
